A Reminder I Didn’t Expect

July 7, 2026

I had the privilege of serving on a panel of four judges for the APSS Keynote Lab, where aspiring professional speakers stepped onto the stage to deliver a 7-minute keynote in front of an audience of professional speakers.

Talk about courage.

It’s one thing to speak to an audience. It’s another thing entirely to speak to a room full of people who make their living speaking. 😅

A big congratulations to all the speakers Nur Farzana Tan Jing En Natalie Nancy Tan Nigel Lew Kavita Karira Edwin See Chung LEONG. What impressed me wasn’t just the quality of your presentations, but the grace and professionalism with which you received feedback – both on your strengths and on opportunities for improvement.

One of my favorite parts of the experience was listening to my fellow judges David Lim Benjamin Loh, CSP Dr Maxine Teo, PhD. We were all watching the exact same presentations, yet we often noticed different things, interpreted moments differently, and offered unique perspectives.

It was a great reminder that mentoring isn’t a one-way street.

When we mentor others, we learn too. We gain fresh insights, challenge our own assumptions, and expand our thinking through the perspectives of others.

Thank you to the speakers, my fellow judges, our fabulous MC Ron Kaufman and the amazing organizing team at Asia Professional Speakers Singapore (APSS) for an energizing and rewarding experience.

❓What did you learn the last time you mentored someone?
