“There is an epidemic of loneliness happening across the world… and the most important antidote to loneliness is community.” – Dr. Jim Yong Kim
The statement from Dr. Kim, global health leader and former President of the World Bank, is just one of dozens of inspired messages I had the privilege to hear recently, while at the annual gathering of the 100 Coaches Community in Nashville, Tennessee.
100 Coaches was founded by Marshall Goldsmith to bring together the world’s premier leadership thinkers with the aim of elevating the impact of individual world-class leadership professionals through connection and learning.
Held in the beautiful The Fisher Center, we had the opportunity to learn, share ideas, and inspire one another. Since the Center was offered via a very generous donation, 100 coaches members donated dozens of books to the library at Belmont University.
What a community! To be in a room filled with such capable, smart, thoughtful, and giving people was truly a gift. I could listen all day to Alan Mulally, former CEO of Ford & Boeing, who generously shared his breadth of knowledge and experience.
We looked at the present and future of AI and its impact on business and society. We heard a presentation about the world’s smallest microscope and how it is instilling a love for science in children. We gained perspective on the impact of social media on today’s youth. We even learned great empathy lessons through songs sung by extremely talented Broadway actors.
And the absolute cherry on top: I took away so many new and renewed friendships! It was truly an exceptional experience, demonstrating the power of community.
Huge thanks to Bill Carrier and his amazing organizing team including Dean Miles and Morag Barrett – your hard work and preparation did not go unnoticed. Scott Osman, Jacquelyn Lane, and the entire team at 100 Coaches Agency – you are rocking it!
I am grateful.
Who is your community, and what can you do in the coming week to solidify and strengthen your community ties?
