The Battle Between AI and Intuition

October 22, 2024

Recently, I had the privilege of speaking at the Global Gurus Summit & Awards Ceremony in Bali, where two Futurists—Diana Wu David and Dr Mark van Rijmenam, CSP—shared fascinating insights into the future of AI and thought leadership.

One topic we discussed was the concept of “the singularity,” the anticipated point where human and artificial intelligence will merge. Experts say it’s not far off.

That got me thinking… 💭 What truly makes humans “human”?

I personally believe it’s our innate intuition and being able to feel—the ability to sit still, listen to our inner voice, and respond to that deep sense of “knowing” that simply FEELS right.

But in a world increasingly dominated by technology, this raises an important question:

**Where do we strike the balance between tech and human intuition?**

Examples…

🔋 I woke up this morning feeling well-rested… until I realized that my Garmin watch gave me a poor sleep score. I began doubting myself—DID I sleep well?

🗺️ We’ve all heard stories of people following their car’s GPS instructions and driving straight into a lake. Where is the intuition in that?

📊 In my early career in consumer marketing, we visited consumers in their homes, observed how they used products, and asked them how they felt. That gave us an intuitive “sense” of the consumer experience. Today, “consumer insights” are data-driven, and marketers tell me they often feel more like mathematicians.

— So, how do we balance our reliance on data with the wisdom of our human intuition, that inner “knowing” that goes beyond logic and programmed behaviors? —

I’d love to hear your thoughts! ➡️ When do you lean on intuition over technology, and vice versa?
