Unveiling the Future: Executive Coaches vs. AI “Prompt Engineers”

January 25, 2024

In the ever-evolving landscape of professional development, an interesting job has emerged – that of the AI “prompt engineer.” 🧠 This is someone trained to formulate questions or input text to get the best, most insightful information from large language models (“LLMs” – think ChatGPT, Bard, Bing). Essentially, it’s about asking the right questions or typing in the best words to get super smart answers back.

When I first heard about the concept of prompt engineers, it instantly resonated with my experience in coaching! As someone who’s been Executive Coaching since long before it became an industry buzzword, I recognized a core similarity: It’s all about the power of asking the right questions. There’s a fun connection between coaches and “prompt engineers(!)” – both know how to pose queries that really make you think and get you talking. 🚀

So, the way I see it: In a world where people worry about AI taking over jobs, coaching is a way to gear up for the future and boost your leadership and collaboration skills! 🚀. Mastering the art of asking powerful questions not only strengthens your relationships with superiors, peers, and direct reports but also positions you as a savvy collaborator with the latest powerhouse “colleague” at work: AI. 😉

What skills do YOU think will be in demand by companies in the future?
